    How to apply for an emission classification

Classification requires that the product has been tested by an approved testing laboratory in accordance with the required methods. Sample selection, analysis and measurements of material emissions must be performed at a competent and impartial laboratory approved by the classification working group.

Apply for an emission classification
After testing products shall an application be send to The Building Information Foundation RTS. The Building Information Foundation RTS treats all documents and information submitted by applicants in support of their application in confidence. Applications for an emission classification for a building material are submitted to the Building Information Foundation RTS on an application form drawn up for this purpose.

The applicant is responsible for all the expenses arising from the testing required for the application. The applicant pays the costs of testing directly to the testing institute.

Product group forming before testing
If the products are so similar that emissions can be verified in one measurement only shall the product groups be formed and agreed on with the classification working group before testing.

Renewal of classification
The classification is granted for three years. If the composition and method of manufacturing the product have not changed, the classification can be renewed by application without testing provided that the required testing methods and the criteria set for the products have not altered fundamentally. Both new and continuation applications will always be examined in accordance with the current requirements set for testing methods and the criteria set for the products.
To the application shall be marked that it is for continuation.

If the classification is granted twice (3+3 years), the product shall be tested and for the application shall be marked that it is for Renewal.

Classification fee
The applicant shall pay the Building Information Foundation RTS a fee for classification.
Pricing policy after January 1, 2010:

  • The classification fee for one product is 740 €.
  • For the second product from same company the fee is 650 € if the product is classified at the same time as the first product.
  • For the third and following products from the same company the fee is 555 € if the product is classified at the same time as the first product.

If the products are so similar that emissions can be verified in one measurement only shall the product groups be formed and agreed on with the classification working group before testing.

  • 855 € one product group (3 or more products)
  • 830 € one product group (2 products)
  • Advance payment
