RT Environmental Declaration

How to apply for an environmental declaration

The application and necessary background information are sent to the Building Information Foundation RTS. In addition to the public document, a background document is formulated for approval of the environmental declaration. RT Environmental Declarations are granted by the Building Information Foundation RTS. The declaration is granted for three years. If the composition and method of manufacturing the product have not changed, the declaration can be renewed by application without LCI calculations. Both new and continuation applications will always be examined in accordance with the current methodology. If an application is a continuation application, this shall be mentioned on the application. A continuation application can be made only once; after this, a new application shall be made. The following information shall be sent by post:

• The application
• Background information (Annex A and B)
• Assurance of the thoroughness and compliance of the methodology by the performer of the calculations
• Opinion on the appropriateness of the information (Annex C with Annex D).

The producer himself or his representative may perform the calculation. The expert fills in Appendix C, and the RTS committee fills in appendix D.

The methodology
”Methodology for Compiling Environmental Declarations for Building Products and Assessing Environmental Impacts of Buildings” can be bought from RTK Oy (www.rakennusteollisuus.fi/rtkoy) or from the Building Bookshop (www.rakennustieto.fi)

Pricing policy after 1 January 2010:

The company shall pay the calculation, compiling and expert statement costs. The applicant shall pay the Building Information Foundation RTS a fee for the RT Environmental Declaration.

The declaration fee:

• one product 740 € VAT 0%
• one product group 855 € VAT 0%.
• advance payment

If the company needs the declaration in other languages than in Finnish, the payment of the translation shall be charged separately.
