The ethical AI playbook 2.0
Finnish version: 2.0 / 18.6.2025
This is an AI playbook designed for the AECO-sector. Its purpose is to share knowledge on the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence within the industry. AI development is advancing rapidly, yet there is still limited research-based information available especially regarding AI development in this sector. The main goal of the playbook is to provide readers with a foundational understanding that enables them to develop AI applications and utilize AI effectively in their own work.
The playbook highlights key considerations and examples relevant to the AECO sector. Several general guidelines for AI application have been published across various industries. With this playbook, we aim to go one step deeper, providing AECO sector professionals with support for applying AI. We have aimed to compile insights into what experts, managers, supervisors, and technology professionals working in the field should understand about AI utilization in the industry. This AI playbook covers AECO value chain from design, construction industry, manufacturing industry and the building owner.
We hope that the playbook inspires readers to develop a thirst for knowledge about applying AI and to engage in discussions on the topic within their networks.
To support the writing of the playbook, extensive data collection was conducted through a literature review, workshops, and interviews. The literature review covered a wide range of scientific publications, theses, reports, publicly available guidelines and manuals from various organizations, online courses, news articles, and presentation materials. The most significant sources are referenced throughout the playbook in “Read more” sections and inline citations. The workshops and interviews helped deepen and apply the content to the context of the Finnish AECO sector, ensuring that the perspectives of various industry stakeholders were comprehensively considered.
To the reader
The playbook is divided into two parts: an overview of the current state of AI development in the AECO sector, and five thematic sections. In the overview, we define what artificial intelligence and its various subfields mean, explain what responsible and ethical AI development entails, and provide insights into how to take artificial intelligence development into account locally (localization). Through the five thematic sections, we explore key questions related to what our industry should consider regarding ethical AI development, potential risks, application opportunities, data security issues, and the everyday practicalities of developing AI.
You can navigate the playbook using the table of contents or by selecting a topic through the icons below. You can read all pages in order using the buttons at the bottom right of the pages.
